Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

When I think of French Polynesia, Bora Bora is the destination to beat all others so having the chance to visit here on our cruise was an absolute bonus. Accomodation here is made up of mainly honeymoon style resorts so a day trip was our perfect solution. We had done our research and realised that booking the shore excursions with the cruise were almost twice the price we found a company through Trip Advisor and booked ourselves on.

Just like Moorea, Bora Bora was absolutely magnificent, the ocean was warm, clear and blue and teeming with beautiful fish life. Our tour group only had 8 people on a stunning speedboat but it was a bit of a mix of people from experienced snorkellers to a couple from Canada who had never snorkelled and could barely swim. This was a bit unfortunate as it meant that our guide decided that we couldn’t stop in the main location that we were likely to see giant mantas as it was too rough for the inexperienced snorkelers so he took us to a spot which had one rock with an anemone and a family of clown fish. Dissapointed.com. Thankfully he did take us to the area where eagle rays hang out and whilst it was rough and the non swimmers were back on the boat within minutes those of us that could swim spent a good 40 minutes just swimming around with and watching a huge ballet of eagle rays as they just hovered below us in perfect formation. Eagle rays are just as majestic and magnificent as I expected them to be and this experience well and truly made up for the ‘Finding Nemo’ stop.

Although it was windier and rougher than we had hoped, Bora Bora was still magical thanks to the eagle rays, definitely somewhere that I would love to return when we win the lottery.
