After an amazing week in Medellin we had 10 days to spend in
Colombia before our flight home from Bogota.
Usually 10 days is plenty of time to visit at least 3-4 places but in
all honestly we were done. After years of
moving day after day we just wanted a rest and with roads and transport not the
safest in Colombia we didn’t want to jinx ourselves this close to the end of
this journey so we made an executive decision to return to Cartagena for a bit
of R&R.

We booked ourselves into the Blue Concept hotel, one of the
few hotels in Cartagena with a pool and set about relaxing. We lazed on the luxury sunbeds, we read books
that we had started months ago, we emailed friends in the hope of lining up
some work for our return and from the comfort of my sunbed in Colombia I soon
had 2 interviews lined up ready for my return to the rock.

Tim had managed to secure a contract as a consultant for a
Funds business so was all set to start work as soon as we were home and had a
fantastic skype with his new boss Pip from our little hotel in Colombia where
it soon transpired that Jersey is way too small and Pip was the girlfriend of
one of our best friends brothers, seriously what are the chances!

We did venture from our sun beds once or twice, usually just
to get coffee and cake from Juan Valdez, the best coffee shop in Colombia, or
to eat at our favourite Mexican restaurant but at least once we went back to
the old town to revisit the sights that we had been dragged past at speed on the
terrible walking tour that we had done previously.

Cartagena is a great little spot, it has beaches, it has
culture, it has great food and is a perfect place to relax. We had rain, lots of it and a strange noise
in our room that the hotel claimed was a faulty air con unit next door that
meant we had three rooms in as many nights so as not to sleep to the sounds of
“wiiiiiiirrrrrrr clunk, wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrr clunk”.

I am pretty sure that 7 days of lounging is permitted after
a journey like ours, but don’t fret, we are not done with Colombia, we will
definitely be back to do it properly, now just didn’t feel like the right time
to do it.

Next up, our final stop in Colombia and for this leg of the
journey, Bogota!
